Timothy Karpinski's newest body of work entitled "Lullaby" is all new and very specially made to adorn the humble walls of REDUX.  We are thrilled for the grand opening this First Friday, which falls on a very special night when the masses will doubtlessly be out and about near our fair river to witness fireworks and such.. it should be an action-packed and fun-filled evening not to be missed!

Tim grew up in the remote farming regions north of Jersey near the Appalachian trail.  His artwork is deeply rooted in the forests, rivers and animals of the natural world that surrounded his upbringing. It became further influenced by skateboard culture, graphics and music in youth, life and travels thereafter. 
He is now a painter, illustrator and freelance graphic designer living in Portland, OR.  He creates art with prolific enthusiasm, and contributes actively to new collective gallery called the Together Gallery on Alberta in P-town.  His work is distinctively personal, often describing in portraiture the calm reflection of the individual as well as the nuances and interplay of relationships with one another and within their natural surroundings.  Tim utilizes layering devices beyond just placement of visual imagery. Pieces often contain literary wordplay and are given powerful titles which embed themselves lyrically within each piece.  In this sense, experiencing his work is often similar to catching a profound snippet of a poem or hearing a sublime phrase of music.
Some of his most recent shows have adorned several of our favorite local galleries, including the Grass Hut Corp, Pony Club, and Thinkspace Gallery in LA.

His words:
"From a young age I've always been making things. Building forts turned into building
skate ramps which lead to building art installations. I love the art making process, from
the initial spark of the "idea", the creation to the finished product. Art for me is very personal and everything i make is a direct reflection on my feelings about this world
and my struggle and fascination with trying to understand it and find my purpose
within it."

June 08: Kate Durkin- Years of experimentation led her to discover that she could successfully manipulate a piece's composition while integrating a wide range of subjects by cutting up the canvas, creating groups of little pieces, and stitching them back together. This discovery liberated her from traditional notions of the painting process, both allowing her to be more deliberate with her composition choices and forcing her to relinquish control.

May 08: Kristin-Marie- Collections of fascinating objects have been painstakingly rendered and reassembled in Kristin's work.  She reinterprets tiny objects withing new settings in 3-dimensional ways.

Bradley Royce collaborates with the characteristics inherent in salvaged wood to dictate the  image or creature that emerges.  Working in stark graphic lines of black and white,  he brings out  the  creature or  person trapped within.

November 07: Jason Greene
In his most recent series, he paints small, found objects using the objects instead of brushes.  The “objects that paint themselves” are included in each composition and provide a brief history of process and symmetry between paint and the painted.

Through his most recent work in portraiture, local artist Tim Combs examines parallels between the way he sees our society as excessively consuming and discarding products with similar disregard for the past. His work puts special emphasis on the compelling nature of memory and our fragile bonds to family, friends and community.

August 07: P. Williams
P. Williams current series of work is an exploration of the relationship between humans and nature. The work looks at the plastic divide between humans and the world at large, as well as the tragedy and disasters that come from ignoring the seemingly benign.

July 07: Joseph Valentino
Utilizing a multiple exposure trick to construct double and triple layered ghostlike images, Joe then modifies them with topographical illustrations and letter transfers, pushing the possibilities of what can be done with Polaroid film. The result combines his meditative line designs with geometric repetition and allusions to favorite themes like nature, people, film television stills, and urban decay.

A member of the “Vinyl Killers” troupe, this talented local artist’s undeniably unique interpretation of repurposed record art utilizes his unique stenciling techniques.

May 07:  Faryn Davis  Seattle, WA
This tradition as a “collector of small, powerful things” has transitioned in many ways into her jewelry, installations and mixed media art.  Her work incorporates a wide array of found organic elements such as wood, clay, resin, light, paint, wax and texts into illuminated, shrine-like forms.

April 07:  Rachel Blumberg  Portland, OR
These 'shadow' boxes are repurposed drawers, filled with found miniatures, delicate artifacts, vintage dolls, hanging painted birds, dried flowers, pages of books and other carefully selected ephemera. 

March 07:

Using historical imagery, primarily from advertising campaigns of the 50’s, Kelly Williams Ray's pieces often take a satirical, tongue-in-cheek approach to current issues.  Using the graphic nature of the silk-screen process to fuse bright pictures onto colorful vintage men’s neckties, Kelly produces stunning (and wearable) pieces of political and social commentary.

February 07: Rebecca Haacke

Rebecca makes use of a fragrant, unrefined beeswax, an infinitely malleable medium which encases the image with a sensuous and emotional tonality.   Her use of encaustics diffuses the light upon each story like miniature revelations, giving each piece an aged, yet timeless, child-like fantasy. These small works are her daydreams.

January 07: Kendra Binney

REDUX is proud to present the hauntingly beautiful work of Kendra Binney, a very talented painter creating small works on wood with multi textural embeddings of organic materials, illustrated paper and paint. Through scenes of dripping landscapes and insecure, vulnerable characters, she illustrates a world draped in memories, remorse, and fragile realities.

November 06: Rachel Austin

Rachel Austin loves creating little pieces of art - the smaller and cuter the better. Common themes of innocence, loneliness, travel and flight show up many times in her paintings. She utilizes reclaimed pallet wood and old maps as her canvas.

October 06: Liz Cohn

Liz Cohn works in oil, acrylic, mixed media, and collage to create abstract and whimsical works of art on paper and canvas. These works often contain newsprint and lettering, vintage photography, paint, attachments of metal wire and nails.  Constantly pushing the boundaries of assemblage with her brilliant use of color, texture, words and images, Liz conveys the multidimensionality of life and all it’s curious representations.

September 06: Jenna Robertson

Jenna Robertson-  creates sewing machine-stitched collages using luxurious recycled wool. The textures and colors of angora, lambswool and cashmere and the simultaneous movement and pinned-down stillness of the thread have inspired this series of birds and butterflies.

August 06: Lucia Johnson

Lucia Johnson begins by building her works out of recycled found materials.  Ingredients vary from acrylic sheeting, ancient windows, acrylic paint, wood panels or MDF. Most completed works are a combination of multiple painted layers on glass or clear acrylic sheets stacked up inside a box frame to create a multi-dimensional effect. The layering moves as the viewer does, resulting in a most hallucinatory experience.

July 06: Mary Tapogna

Mary Tapogna-  From functional art and crosses, vases, pendant lamps and iconographic portraiture, this prolific artist has mastered the art of mosaic with an incredible sense of color, detail and technical skill. 

June 06: Brett Superstar

Brett Superstar – Gouache paintings on vintage file folders. Starting with the original brown of the faded folders, Brett pulls shapes by  shading and highlighting in order to bring his portraiture studies to life.

May 06: Gregory Hanson

Using almost exclusively recycled materials exhumed from attics and basements and old photos from decades past,  drawers and boxes are brought back to life in the colorful and whimsical assemblages of Gregory Hanson.

April 06: Theo Fanning

San Francisco artist Theo Fanning and his typewriter jewelry. This wicked neck-piece attracted many window-shoppers.

March 06: REDUX Grand Opening brings you four fabulous metal sculptors and lamp artists:

Jason Radies is a Portland artist and metalworker, mainly working in mild steel and recycled car parts.

Coby is a local metal sculptor using primarily found objects in his work, including machine parts, tools, gears and the like.                                                                       

Matt Sipes is a Portland lamp artist reinventing a variety of consumer cast-offs into functional lamps.  His specialty is the reinvention of the common kitchen appliance, for a fresh, unique interpretation on lighting.

Brody Boeger is a Portland artist who collects old lamp parts from the seventies and reassembles them with a completely chic kitchy-retro cool.  He connects recycled globes of green, amber and white in stacked towers of glowing glass and brass.  He also appropriates objects like vacuum cleaners and other vintage appliances into lamps.
